Ford Svt Raptor Top Speed

The eagerly-awaited showdown is on the rise, thanks to Ram's new 1500 TRX that sets a new truck benchmark, in a spectacular way. The tough Ford F-150 Raptor now has a direct rival, having some proper, high-horsepower, high-capability numbers. The Hellcat-powered TRX not only elevates the off-roading fray but also its off-the-line-performance with its 702 hp 6.2L V8. Nevertheless, the Ford F-150 Raptor is cheaper by about $16,000. So, let's get to this highly anticipated pickup showdown.

Now that the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX has been unveiled, the pick-up truck market gets the right competition to pit against the Raptor. Ford's Raptor has dominated this segment for the longest time, but the 2021 1500 TRX truly has a shot now to regain that dominance, with its humongous 6.2L Supercharged V8 engine. The Ram TRX is much more expensive than the Raptor, but you have a multitude of options so as to spec out your Raptor. It thus comes close to the TRX's base price of $69,995.

Let's face it, neither of these trucks are cheap, but they nevertheless are sold in millions around the US. Ford offers the Raptor in SuperCab and SuperCrew platforms, but the TRX is only offered in Crew Cab size. In this comparison, the Ford Raptor SuperCrew is the closest rival to that all-new 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. Let's take a deep look at how these off-road mighty trucks fare in a number of categories.

Which truck performs better: 2021 RAM 1500 TRX Vs Ford F-150 Raptor?

Powertrain: This is where the showdown begins, both TRX and Raptor use a forced-induction engine under the hood and the way they make power is all that's similar with both the pickup trucks. A 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 in the 2020 F-150 Raptor delivers a whopping 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. Till now the Raptor was unbeatable, but the 2021 Ram TRX enjoys 252 hp advantage over the F-150 Raptor. At the heart of the 2021 TRX is the Fiat-Chrysler's supercharged Hellcat engine- 6.2-liter iron-block V-8 that's found in the SRT Hellcat variants of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Dodge Durango, Charger, and Challenger. The TRX's 6.2-liter supercharged V8 wrecks the Raptor's EcoBoost V6 with 702 hp and 650 lb-ft.

Speed: But even with its big power discrepancy, the F-150 Raptor is certainly quick off-the-line. Ram claims 4.5 seconds to 60 mph and a 12.9-second quarter-mile time for the 2021 TRX —despite its likely heavy curb weight. The Ford F-150 may be down by about 250 hp, but the Raptor is only about half a second slower than the Ram in the 0-to-60-mph dash. The Ford is lighter than the Ram, and that starts with the Raptor's all-aluminum 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6. In terms of speed and power, the 2021 RAM 1500 TRX is the new heavyweight champion, dethroning the long-time king F-150 Raptor.

Transmission and Drivetrain: Both TRX and Raptor come with conventional automatic transmissions. In the 2021 TRX, you get the familiar crisp-shifting ZF eight-speed transmission found in the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The Raptor gets Ford's 10-speed automatic with short gear-ratios that enable instant and efficient delivery of power. Both these trucks come with four-wheel-drive as standards, and they both have a number of drive modes that alter the powertrain's characteristics depending on the terrain.

Baja mode: Transforms the trucks into the desert runners and dune conquerors, that's one of the biggest strengths of both these heavyweights as they're plenty capable of crawling around rocks, too. The Raptor has an optional Torsen limited-slip front differential and a standard electronically locking differential in the rear. The TRX rear end comes standard with a Dana 60 equipped with an electronically locking differential. Both trucks use a two-speed 2.64:1 ratio for low-range four-wheel-drive. Other than at the rear axle, where the TRX and Raptor diverge the most significant is under the hood.

Which is a better Off-Roading truck: 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Vs 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor?

How are these trucks going to handle the rough terrain? Off-road prowess is undoubtedly the key selling point for both, RAM and Ford's pickup trucks. Without putting TRX and Raptor side-by-side on the trail, it's impossible to tell which one is "better", but you should also take into account the Specs and features these trucks have inside, that help them achieve this off-roading prowess.

Looking at the numbers, the overall ground clearance is more than 11 inches for both, with only a few tenths of an inch separating the two. Ford F-150 Raptor seems to the benchmark for the RAM TRX, with the nearly identical approach, break-over, and departure angles indicate that most obstacles that a Raptor can climb over won't even rattle the 2021 1500 TRX.

For an off-road truck, the chassis, suspension, and tires are arguably more important than what's under the hood. Both the 2021 Ram TRX and Ford Raptor rides on the bespoke chassis that is unique from the rest of the product line. Both trucks' chassis is far more rigid and stiffened than the standard truck frame.

Suspension: Both tout high-tech, high-performance dampers. Upfront, the TRX, and Raptor both use a control arm independent suspension with a coil-over damper setup and, in the rear, the 1500 TRX's five-link rear suspension and coil springs as compared to the Raptor's more conventional solid axle and leaf spring arrangement. The Raptor's suspension travel is slightly greater which certainly helps, but how the TRX performs is still to come, as it has better ground clearance. Both trucks have a wider track width than their standard counterparts, along with greatly increased wheel travel. The Ram TRX boasts 13 inches of front wheel travel along with 14 inches of rear travel. The 2020 Raptor also has 13 inches of front wheel travel and 13.9 inches of rear travel.

Ford Raptor vs 2021 RAM 1500 TRX: Off-roading prowess

While Ford offers a Torsen limited-slip front differential for Raptor, the Ram 1500 TRX only offers an open front differential. At the rear, Ram offers either an open, limited-slip or electronic locker as rear differential options but Ford is equipped with an electronic locking rear differential as standard.

Wheels and Tires: For tires, Ram's TRX will come with 325/65R18 Goodyear Terrain tires wrapped around the standard 18-inch wheel or a Beadlock-capable option. The Raptor comes with 315/70R-17 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A K02 tires wrapped around either a 17-inch Beadlock-capable or non-Beadlock-capable wheel. While both sizes are classified as 35-inch tires, the Raptor's BFGs measure out to 34.4 inches tall and 12.4 inches wide. Ram's tire measure 34.6 inches tall and 12.8 inches wide.

Which has better Towing and Payload Capacity: 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Vs 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor?

Both Ford and Ram offer lots of capability here, the Raptor can tow 8000 pounds, a mere 100 pounds short of the TRX's 8100-pound rating, in the crew-cab configuration. In terms of payload capabilities, the 2021 TRX outperforms the Raptor by a huge margin, 1310 pounds to 1200. Both the TRX and Raptor do not sacrifice the conventional truck prowess in order to be the best suited off-road pickups.

While both trucks are rated lower than their standard counterparts in terms of towing and payload capacity but these numbers are respectable. The suspension and high ride height contribute to the towing and hauling figures that are sure to seem low for their respective power outputs.

Which has the better Interiors and Practicality: 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Vs 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor?

Comparing the crew cab models here, both the Ram and Ford have similar yet plentiful cabin space. We're talking full-size sedan levels of legroom with impressive headroom to match even in the rear. We'll throw cargo space into this discussion, too. Of course, the Ram 1500 TRX, has earned our admiration for its interior beyond the specs. The all-new TRX adopts the 1500 Rebel's interior, blessed with some of the Limited trim upgrades.

Inside the cabin, the Ram TRX holds the advantage although there's nothing wrong with the Raptor's interior, still it feels outclassed. Be it technology or upscale materials, TRX has it covered while the Raptor may need a next-generation model to beat it up. Ram equipped the 2021 TRX with specific sporty touches like a flat-bottom steering wheel, bolstered seats, head-up display, and floor-mounted shifter. The Raptor has its own performance-oriented cabin with a sport steering wheel and bolstered seats.

Infotainment: Given the F-150 Raptor's relative age to the new Ram TRX. The Raptor makes do with Ford's Sync 3 multimedia system on an 8-inch touchscreen. The TRX comes standard with Ram's Uconnect interface on a 12-inch, portrait-oriented screen, which can have one application showing across the entire display, or can be split in two to run two apps at the same time. Like the Raptor, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are standard in the 1500 TRX too.

Which is better on the Design and Dimensions front: 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Vs 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor?

Ram only offers the TRX in crew cab trim. Ford, on the other hand, offers the 2020 Raptor in both SuperCrew and SuperCab configurations. For this comparison, we are excluding the SuperCab Raptor. The Raptor looks so much different than the standard F-150 with its unique grille, off-road wheels and tires, and fender flares. Fiat Chrysler is no stranger to outrageous design with its Hellcat series of Dodge vehicles, so the Ram TRX looks appropriately aggressive to take on the Raptor.

2021 RAM 1500 TRX vs Ford Raptor: Exterior front comparison

Both of these heavyweights have an aggressive muscular stance. The Ram's design language cannot certainly be unseen, with those functional hood scoops, high pressure, and crumple zones front corners. Many of the TRX's dimensions are not yet available, besides some important numbers. The Raptor and TRX have the same water-fording depth of 32 inches, but the TRX does benefit from a specialized air-intake that Ram claims exceed the filtering and protection levels of its competition.

In terms of overall length and wheelbase, the TRX and Raptor are very close. The TRX is an inch longer (232.9 inches) than the Raptor which apparently has an inch longer wheelbase. Now despite the massive bulk, these two trucks carry, they are rather pretty quick when compared to the other trucks. So when it comes to the exterior front, it'd be better if we call it a draw.

What about the Pricing and Availability: 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Vs 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor

The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX has more power, newer technology, and a much steeper price tag than the 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor. The $16,540 spread between the Raptor and TRX is massive but we certainly don't mind paying for the privilege. The 2021 Ram will start at $69,995, including $1,695 for the destination. The TRX Launch Edition, of which only 702 will be made, comes in at a staggering $92,010, again including destination. For 2020MY, the Ford F-150 Raptor starts at $55,150 for a SuperCab model, but a SuperCrew a more direct competition to the TRX starts at $58,135, including destination.

Overall, the Ram certainly has the upper hand in a lot of ways, but we expect a new Raptor coming in the not-too-distant future. Let the pickup wars continue. As far as availability is concerned, bookings are open for the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX, and deliveries will start by Christmas, as per the automaker. Ford currently has ample 2020 F-150 Raptors on dealer lots, finding a truck is relatively easy.
